The Japan testosterone gel market is primarily driven by North America, particularly the United States, where the demand for hormone replacement therapy is significant. Should we be looking at other pituitary hormones given my symptoms, or is this an isolated finding in an otherwise stable picture? For a man who is not using any form of exogenous testosterone or other hormone therapy, low or undetectable LH and FSH deserve closer attention. It would actually be more surprising, and worth investigating, if LH and FSH remained elevated or unchanged after starting testosterone therapy.
Placebo-controlled RCTs of testosterone therapy in T2DM have demonstrated improved sexual desire and satisfaction, but not erectile function (EF) 30,39. High-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol may decrease, remain unchanged or increase with testosterone therapy. Several randomised controlled trials (RCTs) have demonstrated that testosterone therapy may improve insulin resistance and hyperglycaemia and lower total and low-density protein (LDL)-cholesterol 29-34. A compensated or subclinical form of hypogonadism, characterised by normal testosterone serum levels and elevated luteinising hormone (LH) production, has also been reported ; the clinical significance of this condition is unclear 18-21.
But know that having an abnormal testosterone result doesn’t necessarily mean you have a serious medical condition. The only way to know your testosterone level is with a blood test. They may also recommend a laboratory testosterone test. You shouldn’t try to self-diagnose a testosterone issue. Pharmacies and various companies may sell at-home testosterone tests. An abnormal testosterone test result doesn’t guarantee that you have a medical condition.
Although it is an effective oral androgen formulation, it is not recommended as a testosterone therapy for hypogonadism because of its hepatotoxic side effects and its association with long-term development of liver tumours. Some patients show parallel variations in breast tenderness, sexual activity, emotional stability (anger or depression) and general well-being (fatigue) as the testosterone levels change over time. The Endocrine Society recommends that the diagnosis of testosterone be made in men who have both consistent signs and symptoms and low total testosterone levels. However, studies of testosterone therapy in men with osteoporosis are limited and none have used fractures as an end-point; so although there is significant evidence of an association between hypogonadism and osteoporosis, there is no established causal link between the two.
Male hypogonadism is a clinical syndrome which comprises of symptoms with or without signs and biochemical evidence of testosterone deficiency. But hormone replacement therapy helps improve sex drive, symptoms of depression and energy levels. Most males with symptoms of low testosterone don’t have a problem with their pituitary glands or testicles. Providers call it male hypogonadism when you have symptoms along with these low levels. There is evidence, however, that testosterone will stimulate the growth of existing prostatic cancers and, of course, existing prostate cancer is contraindicated for testosterone therapy (4). Prostate volume does, however, increase during testosterone therapy usually in the first 6 months, but this is usually to the normal volume seen in eugonadal men.
